HEALTH INEQUALITIES
People with learning difficulties
have poorer health than other people
A 3 year study by Bristol University
(CIPOLD) found that on average people with learning difficulties die
16 years sooner than the rest of the population - women with learning
difficulties die 20 years sooner and men die 13 years sooner*.
Why is
this happening?
This is not due
to lifestyle problems as in the general population but because the
NHS services are not being applied equitably based on need*.
How can
you reduce the risk of this happening to your relative?
By making sure your
relative has NHS annual health checks and to be vigilent especially
if they are living independently.
